Firecam is a website where we provide semi-live camera feeds (images are updated every 5 minutes) from cameras strategically placed around the city of Cape Town. These cameras feed into our AI Smoke detection model which then sends alerts to the stakeholders, some of these detections can be found on the Detections page. We understand the devastating impact that wildfires can have on both the environment and the safety of the residents in our community, and we are dedicated to doing our part to prevent them. This project is completely self funded and is still a work in progress so new cameras will be added from time to time.
Our team is composed of volunteers in the tech and wildland fire industries. Our cameras will give emergency responders visibility on any potential fires and the current conditions that can be expected when they arrive on scene.
We are passionate about using technology to protect our environment and our community, and we believe that the service we provide can make a real difference in the management of wildfires in our city. Our website is easy to use and accessible to anyone who wants to stay informed about potential wildfires in their area. We also have a daily updated weather forecast, Weather, for various locations across the Cape peninsula which includes the FDI, Fire Danger Index, for those areas.
Thank you for visiting our website, and please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns. If you or your business are in a position to sponsor a camera and/or host a camera on your premises please get in touch.
